BBQ Ribs & Corn on the Cob

Monday, August 22nd, 2011
For the 2nd half of my August theme of connecting to my southern roots , I took on BBQ ribs. I also tried to recreate a North Carolina classic cola called Cheerwine…a cherry cola of sorts, any true Carolinian has it among their favorite sodas (and RC Cola). We had a great evening and my wonderful testers were Sharon Franke, Emily Kunz, Jason Bond, Todd Stevens, Russ Hill, Barbara Anglisz and Nick Cordua. Sharon come early to sous chef and also helped take pictures for the evening Read More....

Alaskan Test Nest

Sunday, March 13th, 2011
While on vacation in Alaska, my family wanted me to do a Test Nest, and I was happy to do it. A Test Nest in Alaska must include Salmon, while locals eat a lot of it, I don’t eat Salmon unless I’m in Alaska. From the short time I lived there however, and caught a few of these beauties myself, I experienced the taste difference between the varieties of Salmon. I knew my brother would have plenty of the best Salmon in their freezer so I was pretty excited to try this recipe. I had Mary teach mRead More....

Thanksgiving for 14

Saturday, December 18th, 2010
I decided to stay in NYC for Thanksgiving this year and host a big TEST NEST feast – I ended up having 14 testers. A friend who was leaving town let me use his apartment so I could comfortably fit two tables, serving tables and have access to an additional oven and fridge (not to mention that it was right across the street so easy to run back and forth between the two apartments). I wouldn’t have been able to do it without his place, so thanks David! I eased a little of the stress by haviRead More....

Mexican Fiesta

Sunday, October 10th, 2010
I love Mexican food! I’ve had more than one co-worker in the past tease me about always wanting to order Mexican. I think I love it for many reasons. 1) It is a perfect compliment to Dr. Pepper. 2) Cost savings - most meals are so large they turn into two for me. 3) What could be better than lime, spice, meat, cheese, avocado, beans, rice, tortillas and all of the multiple combinations that can be made with the same ingredients (in fact a few jokes were told at dinner around such a statement).Read More....

Mad Hatter Party

Friday, April 9th, 2010
While in Michigan I was able to do a kid TEST NEST with my nephew Jason and niece Camille and her friends. When I proposed the idea to my sis-in-law I was only thinking of food, but mom’s always know best. Tammy suggested we do something around Alice in Wonderland with fun “zany” activities. We spent five days preparing for our Mad Hatter party, making this the most time extensive TEST NEST yet, but truly a one-of-a-kind. The weather kept away a few friends, and the gamesRead More....

Happy St. Patty’s Day

Thursday, March 18th, 2010
I’ve always loved St. Patrick’s Day, I mean really, who doesn’t like a good pinch every now and then? I have a lil’ bit o’ Irish in my blood (something like 9 generations back, and there are conflicting accounts), so I wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to host a “green” TEST NEST. Guests testers Mindy Booth, Jason & Erica Gardner (plus baby in tummy), Jane Madsen, David Caine, Tim Tanner and Sally Atkinson all came with their festive spirits (but I forgot to take a piRead More....
