Annual TONY’s Party

Sunday, June 10th, 2012
I've been hosting a TONY's party for the past 8 years. Started with Sally Atkinson and Hilary Johnson Ayer, its been a special party for the three of us who started our NYC adventures together in 2003 and had a common love for Broadway. The past couple years we've chosen to celebrate and watch in Times Square...but with the arrival of Sally's new little one we decided it would be best to be inside with a little smaller of a group. We had a great group of Broadway lovers and samplings of lots of Read More....

Sally’s Baby Shower

Thursday, April 12th, 2012
When I learned that my best friend Sally Atkinson was pregnant, I started the planning for the baby shower. They decided not to find out the gender and at 1st I wasn't excited about coming up with ideas for the shower, but then I got inspired by the popular spring colors (red, yellow, green) and lots of ideas started coming together. I had a lot of fun shopping for the decorations for the shower. I couldn't have done this amazing shower without the help of some amazing friends (Erica Gardner,Read More....

After a few weeks in North Carolina and a family reunion themed on remembering our roots, I wanted to spend the month of August putting a twist on family favorites and trying some Southern BBQ recipes. My testers were Amber Robinson, Matt Hardy, Jason and Erica Gardner, Stephanie Zundel, Russ Hill and Erin Mashidas. My roommate Amber Robinson helped take pictures for me, thanks Amber! My wonderful testers included the fabulous Joon Shin whose fantastic photos can be seen below. Barbara Anglisz and Nick Cordua brought their friend Ed Kohtio, who I’ve met a few times over superb dining for Barb and Nick’s birthday celebrations. My wonderful neighbor Scott CRead More....

Manchego, Manchego

Monday, June 27th, 2011
I went skydiving on Memorial Day and after wards we spent the evening in Philadelphia were we ate at Amada, a tapas restaurant. We had quite a few AMAZING dishes at this restaurant, in particular a few with Manchego. I’m not sure what was more exhilarating, jumping from a plane or the amazing food. I had already picked this menu but became more excited about it after the manchego tapas consumed in Philly. It’s probably the reason that I got a huge chunk of it at Costco, when I didn’t need Read More....

Spring Brunch

Saturday, April 30th, 2011
I really enjoyed doing a brunch menu last year and wanted to make sure to fit one in this year. I might try to do another one in September. The baked eggs were yummy, yummy, definitely a recipe I’ll be adding to my selections for breakfast when hosting visitors.  Attendees were Marcus Bowers (thanks for taking the fabulous pictures Marcus), Jason Robertson, Amber Mackay, Morgan Bassett, Vicki Walters, Brian Austin and Alpha Smoot (who also took a few photos with her iPhone and then edited andRead More....

Hil’s B-day Test Nest

Saturday, March 26th, 2011
My best friend Hilary requested that I come down to DC to visit and prepare a Test Nest for her birthday, so I had to oblige. Sally, Tim and I traveled down from NYC for the party and to cook and Hilary invited some other friends in the area. We had a group of 11 for the evening and it was great fun to meet new friends and catch up with some old acquaintances as well. Everyone was really supportive of my cooking experiment and I was honored Hil wanted me to cook her special birthday feast...she'Read More....

Vegetarian Test Nest

Thursday, January 27th, 2011
I’ve had several vegetarian friends request that I do a vegetarian night. With all of the heavy foods around the holidays, and the fact that I think I ate meat everyday for 2 weeks strait, I was feeling the need to lighten it up a bit. I learned a lot about the balance of food, proteins, flavors and textures from my expert vegetarian diners, and I really enjoyed the challenge. My fabulous testers included Joon Shin, Victoria Walters, Sheila O'Connor, April Thibeault and Donovan Bunker. BalaRead More....

Christmas Day Brunch and Dinner

Thursday, January 13th, 2011
I went to Michigan for Christmas with my brother Bill’s family. I offered to cook Christmas Dinner so that Tammy wouldn’t have to and went over options with her so I’d make a great dinner that the kids would also enjoy. They invited the missionaries and a widow from their congregation to join us. I didn’t realize until I started making dinner that almost every dish had a little bit of sugar in it, oops, I rarely cook that way. It was all very yummy though so I guess the sugar overload waRead More....

December 13 Christmas Celebration

Sunday, January 2nd, 2011
The last TEST NEST dinner of 2010 didn’t fail to have interesting conversation, especially since Tim led everyone in a discussion about foreskin restoration and baby circumcision. Quite fitting for the holidays.I had 8 wonderful testers at this meal and we laughed the whole night away. My testers included Barbara and Nick, Sally and Tim, David Caine, Justin Benson, Kirsten Dekker and Pete Cerneka. I’ve had a lot of “firsts” this year and have quite enjoyed this fun experiment. I plan to Read More....
